WEDGES vs. HEELS

I vote for wedges !
They can be just as elegant as heels and are in general much more comfortable.
I don't think further proof is needed when looking at these photos here.

The art of eating

Sometimes I like to look at food as if it were art... but then when you move a few pieces and the work is destroyed and then the only thing left to do is... EAT it !
For those of you having lunch now, enjoy !

Metallics in the park

If you follow a lot of famous blogs, you probably noticed already that "Metallics" is one of the most popular trends at the moment... A shiny jeans and maybe even a sequined blazer are on my wishlist, but while I'm still  I already bought this golden t-shirt. My boyfriend said it reminded him a little of Christmas decoration, but well.. sometimes a girl gotta sparkle.

Comfy in babycolors

This is my third MAS post already.... It's soon time for some fashion posts again, but because of studying I didn't have time to prepare anything yet. My stupid philopsohy exam next week is also the reason why I didn't reply yet to all your nice comments, but I will definately do that next week.  In these photos you can see the museumcafe in the background: STORM. I didn't go there because we discovered another nice cafe in the neighbourhood ( see tomorrows post) , but it didn't seem that special anyway.

As you can see I was wearing a very basic outfit, for some reason these colors : light blue, light pink and white, always remind me of babies...therefore the title "comfy in babycolors".  And in front of the huge building I do look quite small.

Which are your favorite museums in your cities ? ( I prefer modern art )

MAS

Yesterday I told you about my favorite part of the MAS : the amazing view from the building.
Ofcourse that is not the only reason why one should visit it.  The new museum focuses on Belgian art and the history of Antwerp, but they also have a floor dedicated to " symbols of power" ,  two floors about " life and death in different religions and societies and much more.. It's hard to describe for me because the museum offers such a wide range of topics. I'm sure everyone can find something he is interested in. All the collections, videos, ..are presented in very modern and original ways and the museum itself is very spacious , so the fact it was so crowded didn't bother me at all.

But it's not only the content of the MAS that I admired... I love the architecture of the museum, eventhough aesthetically it's not really my taste ( somehow I don't like red buildings) , the building is so well designed practically. The big windows give you a great overview of the area around it and all the light coming in gives the museum a warm atmosphere.

For those of who thinking of visiting it , I would advice you to take a look at the website :
I'm sure you'll find a much better description there. ( collection, architects, museumshop and restaurants, practical information, founder,...)

What a view...

Tomorrow I will tell you all about my afternoon in Antwerp and my visit to the new musuem there
( MAS- museum aan de stroom), but today already a little preview of one of the many things it had to offer :
an amazing view over Antwerp, both the port and the city.

Keeping them on

When I buy something new, I don't like it standing around in my closet for too long...My new items need to see the world...or maybe the world needs to see them ? Only one or two generations before us, people still had their "sunday clothes" and their normal weekday ones, nowadays it doesn't work like that anymore. Do you still have a few items you save for special occasions ?

Something sweet

My sister knows I like uploading pictures of food on my blog , so she took this photo for me.
Despite of her good intentions, I get so jealous when looking at the photo.. wish I was able to taste it aswell.

My first pair of boots for fall

I got these boots at Zara a few days ago, finally some heels I can actually walk on.
What do you think ?

Fiesta Europa

Let's forget about the European financial/political crisis for a minute and enjoy this photo of all the great stuff Europe has to offer us..

Last week on our way to the car we passed this European market on the Kouter in Gent. There were stands with food and accesories from all over Europe. By the time we passed them all I wasn't hungry anymore and everyone was so friendly. I heard this market concept "travels" around in Belgium. So definately check it out if they come to your place.

These photos were taken yesterday in the park before a big shopping session. Comfortable footwear : check. Simple clothes you can take off easily to try on some fall pieces : check. A  few accesories to make the total outfit less boring : check. And most importantly : wallet in my bag : check.

Pumkins, oranges, carrots,...

What do all of these have in common ?  their fabulous color !
When walking passed all the shopwindows, it is not very difficult to notice that  an orange item will be a must-have in your fall wardrobe. I decided to practice the trend a little already and wore my bright orange cardigan over my all white summer outfit.

A day in Ghent

This week seems to be my "travel around in Belgium week". Just got back from a delicious thai lunch in Brussels, followed by an exhausting but fun shopping session. Unfortunately the shops were too distracting and time consuming to take outfit photos, but I do have some photos to share with you from yesterday : quality time with my mom in Ghent.

For those of you who don't know Belgium.. Ghent is mainly known for it's studentlife. The most famous Belgian university is situated there and therefore the majority of its population consists of students from all over the country. After my summerholidays you will definately get to hear and see much more of this lively place.

Flowers & Bows

Summer is back  ! Can't waste any time sitting inside during those precious hours the sun is finally shining again !

Saturday, August 13, 2011

I can't wait for the weekend to begin !

Now you are probably all thinking ... The weekend began yesterday. But for me it hadn't , today finally was my last day of work. Eventhough I can't really complain about my summerjob, it will be great to be able to sleep in again and just do what I feel like without planning too much ahead.

And of course this asks for a little celebration... Cocktails anyone?

Imaginary thank you gift !

I would love to send all of you some chocolate to show how much I appreciate your nice comments, but obviously that is not possible so you'll have to do this photo of the little chocolate cakes I baked for my friends a few days ago.

I love my red pants !

I love my red pants and at the moment I feel like wearing them all the time. In this nasty Belgian weather they manage to give me a summerlook without having goosebumps all over my legs. All of you fashion lovers must agree that it's not easy being stylish with layers and layers of warm clothes on, but you'll certainly agree with me that looking elegant when you are cold is even more difficult. Hehe, that is definately something we'll have to keep in mind when doing some shopping for fall and winter.

For work I was wearing my red jeans with a blazer and a blue shirt and some black accesories, for a walk along the beach at night I decided to put on a big sweater and some beige accesories. Which look do you prefer?

Oh, that car matches my nails

Yesterday while walking to the park we passed this car and I realized this car would be the perfect background for some photos. The color matched my nails and handbag perfectly.
For those wondering, it's not my car nor do I know the owner. It's good I didn't get caught taking photos.
Hehe , too bad that in real life one can't match his car to the outfit and occasion.

I was wearing a H&M blouse from the new collection, really like the sweet colors and can see myself wearing it with some boots and a nice jacket aswell. I noticed a lot of bloggers are wearing fall items already. Eventhough I really like these post, because they keep me up to date with the coming trends and give me a lot of inspiration for outfits, I am not really in the mood to start wearing fall items myself, so at the moment I am still sticking to lighter colors and flats. Maybe because the whole year in Belgium feels like fall, cold and rainy, and I don't wanna let go of summer and all my short dresses just yet.

You see right through me

1. Sunglasses : ASOS
2. Heels : Martin Margiela
3. Watch : Michael Kors
4. Bag : Longchamp

In the world of fashion transparant items seem to very in right now. We can no longer use sunglasses to hide our tired eyes and our watch matches absolutely everything because it has  no color. We even let people see what we carry around all day long in our handbags. According to this trend the best accesories are the less visible ones. But what if you, as a human being, feel invisible ? And what if it is more than just a temporarily thing ?

Last week I went to see INVSBL PPL by Gustavo Miranda at the theater festival ( TAZ 2011- Oostende) here at the Belgian coast. This play was his artistic way of criticising our contemporary visual culture and more specificaly the fact that certain people aren't represented correctly or not at all in our media. The introduction of the act just took too long and was rather boring, but once the "speech" started G.M. managed to make his point very clearly.

I want to smell like this !

When the Lola perfume by Marc Jacobs came out a few years ago I loved the bottle soo much I wanted to buy it straight away, but when trying the perfume I realized I don't actually like the smell.  And buying a perfume only because of the bottle is just too ridiculous. But yesterday I noticed that a "sister" of the Lola perfume came out :

It is called Oh, Lola and not only  does the bottle look just as good as the previous one. This time I really like the smell aswell, it is a lot sweeter. So once again something to add to my wishlist.

This one here, the first MJ flower perfume, is available in lots of different special editions.

Which one is your favorite ?

NY memories

After my trip to Sevilla about a month ago, I couldn't really decide where to go on my next trip.
(  !!! for a traveldiary and lots of outfit photos, see some of my previous posts).

Last september I went to the US for the first time..and more specificaly NEW YORK. It was such an  unforgettable experience, that it seems almost  impossible to plan something that could compare to my week spent in the big city. But staying at home isn't the solution, so I asked the people I travelled with last year if I could join them on their trip this year. We all agreed on doing a low-budget trip within Europe, but choosing the exact destination wasn't very easy. But now we booked, so it's official.. we are going to PORTUGAL. It will be my first time there. We'll be travelling around for 10 days, going from one city to another ( Faro, Porto, Lisboa, ..)
Our plan is to stay in hostels and travel  from one place to another by train with very limited luggage.
This might sound a little silly, but this will probably be the most adventurous trip I've ever done. And eventhough I'm really looking forward to it, I'm a little bit nervous aswell.

The reason I am posting this ( apart from sharing my excitement with you ) , is because I'm hoping some of you will be able to give me some advice on where to go/eat/shop ?
All information is welcome. So please email me or leave a comment, if you are from Portugal or you've been there.
Thank you  :)

x B.

btw : the NY photos were taken by my friend T.D.

A touch of pink

I love the fact that just a few details can brighten up an otherwise almost boring outfit, especially when they are pink.

For work I wore an "all white outfit" with a dark blue suede blazer. I didn't have time to change before going to dinner, so I added a pink Zara scarf and some pink lipstick.

New in town

For the readers from Belgium or future tourists : here a little update from the international brands and stores in my country.

About a month ago Superdry opened its first ( and probably last ) store in Oostende, one will be opening in Knokke very soon aswell. For me, their collection is a bit too sporty, but I do like the hoodies for more ""adventurous occasions. It is quite crazy how fast this brand spread in the bigger cities all over Belgium.

Yesterday I went to Forever 21 in Brussels. It was my only free day this week and I just couldn't resist quickly taking the train to have a look at the collection.I discovered this highstreet brand in New York and I think it's great for buying trendy pieces at a very low price. You'll see what I bought in one of my next posts. In a few weeks they will open the second one in Brussels, great excuse to buy some more accesories.

Starbucks is all over Europe, but somehow it took ages before they came to Belgium. At the moment we have ( only !) 3of the famous coffee bars in our country : one at the International airport, one at Brussels central station and one at Antwerp central station. The next one should open soon in Gent, on the Korenmarkt. A little complaint though : why is it much more expensive than in other countries ? Starbucks is expensive enough already. ( But i love frappucinos)

Bjorn Borg should open in Oostende this week aswell. Not really excited about this one, but I decided to mention it anyway for those of you who like oversized, overpriced  flashy underwear.

Another opening I'm really looking forward to is the one of the Marc Jacobs store in Brussels.
And especially the fact the store will include a Bookmarc, another
shop I discovered in New York. Great art/photography books and  fun MJ souvenirs. Curious what the prices will be like though.

And last but not least, Massimo Dutti is coming to Oostende, I have this feeling that I'll be a good costumer.

If any of you hear of more stores opening here, you are always welcome to let me know :)
Ofcourse there are many more I didn't put in this list, but I just made a small selection of those that are relevant to me.

With all this international brands coming to my country I'll be able to spend more time on my holidays focusing on sightseeing and relaxing rather than shopping. Thank you globalization. But on the other hand , it will be even more difficult to buy something other people haven't seen yet. Any opinions on this ?

My grandpa's birthday

My grandpa turned 70 on saturday so he invited the whole family for a dinner. The location : a little cottage surrounded by fields, not really the kind of place I would like to spend my birthday, but I guess the age difference can explain that. Here some photos of my cousin and I in our dresses.

Click "read more" for more photos :)

Mmmmm

Friday evening I went to have dinner with my family to celebrate my cousins birthday. This was the first course. Can anyone guess what this is ? Probably not... it's tuna carpaccio, one of my favorite dishes. I love the way they presented it in this restaurant, but what I loved even more is how it tasted. Mmmm...
