For those of you who aren't following me on Instagram (yet?-->tripstreasures) I wanted to share a few quick snapshots of my weekend in Amsterdam...
I had been in Amsterdam twice already, but I never felt like I really got to see the city. This time I was visiting a friend and the first thing she asked me to do after arriving was renting a bike. The thing is : everyone who knows me, also knows I hate biking. So the idea of discovering the city by bike didn't sound very appealing to me. But I'm happy she was so persuasive ( although my legs are still bruised from a few little bike-accidents haha), because now I finally have a much better impression of Amsterdam (and not just the few shoppingstreets in the centre).
Saturdayevening we went to the "Cinedans" festival in the super modern and beautiful EYE(photo 7). You can read more about the festival and watch the cool trailer here. I actually never noticed or heard of this building before, which really is quite a shame. Next time I'm in Amsterdam I definitely want to go back to have drinks in the bar overlooking the water.
After the five shortfilms, we were starving and went for dinner at a thai restaurant in the asian neighbourhood opposite of the central station.(photo 6)
On Sunday we had quite a busy schedule, luckily all the stores and museums are open:
we visited the " 9 straatjes" (all kinds of stylish boutiques and bars)
did some shopping at H&M home (photo 8) and
De Bijenkorf (loved their windows and campaign photos- photo 5),
saw " de Irissen" at the Van Gogh museum (temporarily part of the Hermitage museum),
biked in the Vondelpark, PC.Hooftstraat & around the several " grachten",...
I had a great time and I was suprised to see how big and international the city is.
Hopefully I'll be able to visit my friend again in May or so... because " Het stedelijk museum" & " het Rijksmuseum" ( which is opening again soon after some serious renovations)are still on my to do list.
